Collection: Natural Deodorants

FAQ

Q) What is a natural deodorant and how is it different from a regular deodorant or antiperspirant?

A) The distinction matters. An antiperspirant uses aluminium salts to physically

block sweat ducts and reduce perspiration. A conventional deodorant uses

synthetic fragrance and antimicrobial agents to mask or reduce odour but does

not stop sweating. A natural deodorant — like The Nature Masons range — uses

plant-derived actives to address odour without aluminium or synthetic

ingredients. The TNM formula uses magnesium hydroxide (which raises underarm

pH to inhibit odour-causing bacteria) and zinc ricinoleate (which traps and

neutralises volatile odour compounds). Neither active stops perspiration — they

address the odour that perspiration causes. This is the fundamental difference

between a deodorant and an antiperspirant. All seven TNM variants are

deodorants, not antiperspirants.

Q) Is natural deodorant safe — is it better than antiperspirant?

A) Natural deodorant is safe for all ages and skin types. The question of whether

antiperspirant is harmful is a matter of ongoing scientific discussion — the

aluminium concerns that circulate have not been conclusively proven but the

concern motivates many people to switch. Separate from any safety question,

there is a physiological argument for not blocking sweat: perspiration is one of the

body's temperature regulation mechanisms, and blocking sweat ducts may cause

the body to compensate in other ways. Natural deodorant allows normal

perspiration while addressing odour. The Nature Masons range is available in

seven scents including a fragrance-free option (Unscented Armour) for sensitive

skin. All available at thenaturemasons.com.

Q) Why do I still sweat when using natural deodorant — is it not working?

A) Sweating while using a natural deodorant is expected and correct. Natural

deodorants are not antiperspirants — they do not block sweat. Their job is odour

control, not sweat reduction. The body produces odour when underarm bacteria

break down the proteins in sweat. Magnesium hydroxide and zinc ricinoleate (the

actives in all TNM deodorants) address this process: one by adjusting the pH

environment in which bacteria thrive, the other by binding odour compounds

directly. If you are not producing odour but are still sweating, the deodorant is

working. If you are sweating and producing odour, apply to cleaner, drier skin — or

try the 80g full size for more consistent coverage.

Q) Does natural deodorant work in Indian heat and humidity?

A) Yes — when formulated with specific actives rather than relying on fragrance

alone. Many natural deodorants fail in India because they use only fragrance

masking, which is overwhelmed by high perspiration in tropical heat. The Nature

Masons formula uses magnesium hydroxide and zinc ricinoleate — functional

odour-control actives that work regardless of temperature and humidity level.

Multiple customers in Goa and other tropical Indian climates confirm effective allday

odour control in summer. Apply to clean, thoroughly dry underarms for best

results. In very high-activity conditions, the 20g travel size carried for midday

reapplication ensures reliability throughout the day.

Q) How long does it take for natural deodorant to start working after switching from antiperspirant?

A) Most people experience a 2–4 week adjustment period. During this time the skin

microbiome under the arm rebalances — years of antiperspirant use have

suppressed a particular bacterial population, and when aluminium is removed,

that population temporarily overproduces before settling at a new equilibrium.

Many people experience increased sweating or a temporary stronger odour in

weeks one and two. This is not the deodorant failing — it is a physiological

adjustment. By week three to four, most users find the TNM formula works as well

as or better than their previous product. Starting with the Trial Pack of 7 (₹990

for all seven 20g sizes) lets you test the full range during this adjustment period.

Q) Which natural deodorant scent should I choose from The Nature Masons range?

A) Match the scent profile to your preference: Bewitching Hour (lavender and neroli)

for floral and fresh. Citrus Lemonana (lemongrass and orange) for sharp citrus.

Timber Titan (cedarwood and ylang ylang) for woody and earthy. Forest Trails

(patchouli and green) for nature-forward and grounded. Peaches and Cream

(peach) for light and fruity. Bee-ing Vanilla (honey and vanilla) for warm and

indulgent. Unscented Armour (fragrance-free) for sensitive skin or fragrance-free

environments. If unsure, the Natural Deodorant Trial Pack of 7 includes all seven in

20g sizes — the recommended way to find your match before committing to the

80g. Available at thenaturemasons.com.
